Guidelines for Authors

The Editorial Board of the journal Ekonomichna ta Sotsialna Geografiya accepts original, previously unpublished scientific articles that address current issues in human geography. Manuscripts submitted to the Editorial Board must not be under consideration by any other journal and must not have been published elsewhere in a similar or slightly modified form.

ARTICLE SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

Language of Publication

Articles may be written in Ukrainian or English. The editorial board reserves the right to carry out language editing of submitted manuscripts (with mandatory approval from the authors) and may reject submissions that fail to adhere to the academic writing style or contain excessive spelling and grammatical errors.

Structure of the Scientific Article

Authors are encouraged to follow the classic structure of a scientific article:
(1) Introduction: relevance of the topic, research objectives and tasks.
(2) Theoretical and Methodological Framework: review of recent research and publications, presentation of key theories, concepts, and previous empirical findings that form the basis of the study.
(3) Research Methods and Data: detailed description of research methods, case studies, and the origin and characteristics of the data used.
(4) Results and Discussion: presentation of research results, their evaluation in relation to the objectives and tasks, and discussion in the context of previous research, existing theories, and concepts.
(5) Conclusions.
(6) References.

Abstract and Keywords

Each article must be accompanied by two abstracts — in Ukrainian and English. The abstract should be no less than 1,800 and no more than 1,900 characters with spaces. It should briefly reflect the article's content (introduction, objectives, methods, results, conclusions), avoid repeating the article’s title, not include general phrases, and not duplicate the conclusions section. Terminology must be consistent with that used in the main text. The abstract should serve as an independent source of information.

Each article must also include 5–7 keywords in both Ukrainian and English.

The editorial office provides a free service of translating abstracts and keywords into Ukrainian for foreign authors.

Article Length

The article (excluding the abstract and references) should be between 5,000 and 8,000 words.

Text Formatting

The article must be submitted as a Microsoft Word document for Windows, with the following formatting:

- Font: Times New Roman, size 12 pt
- Line spacing: single
- Margins: 2 cm on all sides
- Paragraph indent: 1.25 cm
- Page orientation: portrait only (landscape allowed only for specific tables or figures)
- Formulas must be created using Microsoft Word’s built-in equation editor (“Microsoft Equation”).
- Each abbreviation should be introduced in parentheses after the first mention of the full phrase.
- Abbreviations for currency, metric, and time units (UAH, mL, km, hr, min, s, etc.), as well as million and billion (mln, bln), should be written without periods. A non-breaking space (Ctrl+Shift+Space) should be used between the number and the unit abbreviation.
- A non-breaking space (Ctrl+Shift+Space) should also be used between initials and surnames.

Figures and Tables

The article may include up to 5 figures. Figures should be submitted in raster format (*.tif, *.jpg, *.gif, *.bmp) with a resolution of at least 300 dpi. Authors may embed images into the manuscript but are also required to submit the original image files separately in high resolution. Each figure must have a sequential number, a title, and a reference to the source. For example: "Fig. 1. GDP per capita by NUTS 2 statistical regions. Compiled based on materials from Eurostat."

The article may contain no more than 4 tables. Tables must be created using Microsoft Word tools only and should fit within the page margins. Each table must have a number, a title, and a reference to the source. For example:
"Table 1. GDP per capita by NUTS 2 statistical regions. Compiled based on materials from Eurostat".

References

All sources cited in the body of the article must be included in the reference list. Conversely, all sources listed in the references must be cited within the text. The reference list should be arranged in alphabetical order.

The bibliographic format must conform to the APA style. This applies to both the reference list and in-text citations.

The formatting of Cyrillic-language sources should follow these guidelines:
(1) Provide an English translation of the reference formatted according to APA style. Authors’ surnames should be transliterated or written as the authors themselves commonly render them. Titles of periodicals should be translated into English, unless an official transliteration exists (e.g., Ekonomichna ta Sotsialna Geografiya), in which case the transliterated title should be retained.
(2) Indicate the original language of the publication in square brackets, e.g., [In Ukrainian].
(3) Include the original citation in Cyrillic script, also in square brackets.
