Abstract

The paper discusses the issues associated with the prospective development of the mining industry in Poltava region. The discussion deals with projects of spatial planning documents at the regional level. For clarity, the authors provide definition, key characteristics, and hierarchy of spatial planning documentation existing in Ukraine, and prove that exactly planning documentation of regional level provides an answer to the question of further strategic territorial, demographic, economic and environmental regional development arguing that rational spatial planning and use of available resources constitute basis for the efficient economical development. Poltava region posess significant deposits of ferruginous quartzites, therefore the paper presents information on the development of industrial facilities created on the basis of these resources. The authors addressed the future development of the mining industry and try to forecast its influence on both Poltava region in whole and its certain parts, discussing positive and negative consequences that may occur as a result of industrial areas development.
